A Sith Lord emerging from Legends, Darth Malgus was a very important character when the Old Republic was still prominent. Before becoming a Sith Lord, Malgus was referred to by his birth name – Veradun.
The martial skills of Malgus were well-known across the galaxy and his ambition guided his every move. Additionally, his contempt for the Galactic Republic and the Jedi was supplemented by his strategic abilities, when contributing to the protracted war between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire back in the Old Republic era, thousands of years prior to the Sith’s defeat by Anakin Skywalker.
Even when Veradun was young, his interest in the dark side was unmistakable. Once he became a member of the Sith, he stood out during various battles. When Jedi Master Satele Shan defeated him when he assaulted Alderaan, it led Malgus to pioneer an attack against the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Many Jedi were executed during this attack, following which he and his crew destroyed the temple. This incident was a marked victory for the Siths.
Darth Malgus was also credited with being a visionary during his time. He was dedicated to transforming the Sith Empire, and would often challenge its conservative ways and structures. His character was considered extremely complex, particularly because of his love for Eleena Daru – a Twi’lek. This relationship showcased his philosophies and how he was a man of contradictions.
The Rule of Two – a book written by the Sith Lord Darth Bane is about Malgus, and was produced thousands of years following the latter’s death. When attempting to rule over the Galactic Empire, both Darth Vader and Darth Sidious would refer to his journals. Overall, Darth Malgus is considered a highly complex and interesting character, and his legacy was analyzed and dissected years after his death, specifically to study his conquests and ideological approaches.
