Who is Sabine Wren?

When the Rebel Alliance began to emerge against the Galactic Empire, one key figure who made a mark was Sabine Wren. A young Mandalorian, her vibrant armor along with her artistic flair helped her stand out. In addition to being an incredible warrior, she was a well-known graffiti artist as well as an expert when it comes to explosives. Ideas of rebellion and hope were pervasive across her tags and murals. Thus, she used her work to resist Imperial oppression.

Sabine was born in House Vizsla, specifically Clan Wren, and when she was younger, the intricacies and complications specific to the Mandalorian world surrounded her life. Since she possessed great acumen for engineering, she would join the Imperial Academy on Mandalore. However, the cruelty doled out by the Empire and the role played by the weapons she designed in aiding this cruelty would lead Sabine to rebel. On a moral level, this decision is certainly appropriate. However, it led to an estrangement between her and her family, following a long-drawn conflict.

Sabine, along with Ezra Bridger and Kanan Jarrus, was a part of Hera Syndulla’s Ghost crew. With this team, Sabine would venture across the galaxy and the tyranny of the Empire would greet her at every corner. Before the Spectres became an indispensable part of the rebel movement, they undertook various successful missions. Eventually, they were fighting alongside Ahsoka Tano, Leia Organa, and other legends. With time, Sabine found herself back in Mandalore and actively mobilized her people to take on the Empire. Sabine encountered several threats and confronted many challenges rooted in her own legacy, as she partook in the fight with the Darksaber – a symbol of Mandalorian leadership.

During the war, there were many instances when the Ghost crew had to confront the Grand Admiral Thrawn as well as his infamous Imperial forces. During the Battle of Lothal, these encounters would crescendo with the defeat of Thrawn by the Spectres. The planet was finally free from the rule of the Imperial forces. While the rebels considered this liberation a great victory, the cost of it cannot be overlooked. Both Ezra and Thrawn vanished into thin air while battling inside the Grand Admiral’s starship. The majority were certain that Ezra had passed away along with Thrawn. However, Sabine refused to give up hope that her friend was still alive.

Once Lothal was freed, Wren began to train under Tano, despite the fact that she was considered to be barely Force-sensitive. Around the same time, the Empire would destroy Mandalore and Sabine’s family, in an event that is referred to as the Night of a Thousand Tears.

Ahsoka was concerned that Sabine would be seduced by the dark side and thus, the training was stopped and each of them went their own ways. They were apart for several years before they reunited again – rather reluctantly – upon hearing rumors about the return of Thrawn and the Empire’s resurrection.

Sabine held Bridger’s old lightsaber and joined forces with Ahsoka to determine where Thrawn was located. She hoped to find her old friend there as well. Eventually, both of them would end up on Peridea, a planet located in a distant galaxy. Here, the Grand Admiral and his followers had been living in exile for over ten years. Although there were several evil forces attempting to distract her, Sabine would find Ezra here, while also repairing her relationship with Ahsoka.

While Thrawn worked on escaping from his exile, the three rebels attempted to put up a fight. Despite their failure in accomplishing this mission, they were successful in bringing Bridger home after a decade of being stranded. Moreover, following many years of struggle, Wren managed to unlock the Force lying latent within her. She resumed her training with Ahsoka and demonstrated immense potential, quickly becoming the first-ever Mandalorian Jedi within this millennium.
