During the Galactic Republic’s last few years, Cal Kestis was a member of the Jedi Order. He was a Jedi Knight who underwent his training as a Padawan with Jedi Master Jaro Tapal. However, when Order 66 was enacted (Emperor Palpatine’s command directed at each clone trooper to execute their Jedi officers encoded as a secret decree), Cal witnessed his master’s death, which turned his life tragic.

Following his escape, he went to planet Bracca to protect his life, where he worked as a scrapper and masked his abilities pertaining to the Force. He spent his time focusing on dismantling derelict starships dating back to the era of the Clone Wars. However, after several years, his true identity was learned by the Empire, whose Inquisitors were dedicated to executing the rest of the Jedi. As such, he was forced to flee and ended up joining the starship Stinger Mantis’s crew, which also included droid BD-1, Nightsister Merrin, captain Greez Dritus, and Jedi Cere Junda.

The mission of the crew was to rebuild the Jedi Order by finding a Jedi holocron that had pertinent information helpful for this pursuit. They find the Holocron and, in the process, narrowly sidestep an encounter with Darth Vader. This encounter causes Kestis to destroy the Holocron, with the intention of ensuring that the Force-sensitive children of the galaxy remain safe from Darth Vader.

Therefore, each decision and choice made by Cal during his journey, which was riddled with challenges, is a testament to his resilience, hope, and indomitable spirit. Despite encountering various scenarios that test his ideas and how he associates with the Force, he continues to make impactful decisions.
