Among the most dangerous Sith Lords, Darth Maul was known for his yellow eyes, horns on his head, and his double-bladed lightsaber. Maul was from Dathomir and as a child, he underwent training with the guidance of Darth Sidious. He was very quickly inducted into the dark side and was honed for combat. He was first introduced to the galaxy before the Naboo Crisis. It was his responsibility to execute Queen Amidala as well as the Jedi Knights Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
In an epic duel, he would go on to kill Master Jinn. However, young Kenobi would manage to fight the Sith apprentice and push him down a reactor shaft. It was assumed that Maul died during this duel and he was replaced by Count Dooku. Maul would survive this fall and would come back during the Clone Wars, filled with hate and anger. His objective was to defeat Obi-Wan Kenobi and cause as much damage as possible.
Maul encountered Master Kenobi as well as the Jedi several times during the Clone Wars. Despite failing at putting an end to his nemesis, he tortured him emotionally by killing Duchess Satine as Kenobi was forced to watch the assassination. Maul would soon take over Mandalore and work to intensify his crimes. The Republic Forces, led by Ahsoka Tano would finally defeat Maul and free Mandalore. However, with the passing of Order 66, Maul would find a way to escape from captivity amidst unparalleled chaos.
Several years later, Maul would end up in the ancient Sith world of Malachor when pursuing a Sith Holocron. Ahsoka Tano, Ezra Bridger, and Kanan Jarrus would encounter him there since they were also in search of the Holocron. Here, Maul would corner Bridger and try to lure him to the dark side. Finally, Bridger finds the Holocron and despite Maul’s intentions to steal it, Tano’s interference and Darth Vader’s arrival prevent that occurrence.
The members of the Ghost crew are taken hostage by Maul, who demands the ancient artifact. When he obtains the Holocron, he finally learns the location of his nemesis. Maul goes to Tatooine – a desert planet – where he confronts his enemy again. He quickly realizes that Kenobi is on the planet to protect someone. They engage in a duel and Kenobi defeats Maul, who passes away in the Jedi’s arms. Before dying, he enquires whether Kenobi was protecting the Chosen One and learns that the boy is destined to put an end to the Sith. Maul receives some much-needed closure before passing away.
